Dyed diesel is also called coloured, red, purple or off-road diesel. It is used in marine vessel, agricultural equipment, construction sites and off road applications. It is not intended for use in vehicles on the road. The diesel fuel is dyed to help prevent misuse of this lower grade of fuel. Dyed fuel is untaxed or taxed at a lower rate than “clear” or “white” fuels. Dyed diesel is also used for identifying fuel theft.
